in course of collection, instead of reuitting them to New York in cover- ture of our bills; although I daresay that, considering that ours is a British Company and that the Latter would also affect the Texas Company, some modus might nevertheless be Lound to prevent the holding up of these funds funds which a british Jompany, and in turn the Texas Con- pany, have received from the Guaranty Trust Company and which my Jompany | is bound to repay to the latter out of the proceeds of goods belonging to the Texas Company. It is, at any rate, with these reflections, and to serve British interest, that I shall do my best to prevail upon the Guaranty rust Company to pass over the aspersion cast upon it and to withdraw their demand to send the documents through an American concern
the International Banking Jorporation.

I should add that the Guaranty rust Jompany was strongly recommended to me by Messrs. idder, reabody & 00. Baring'e agents to whom I went because of this English connection, my Leadon people having left unanswered my cable, asking for the name of the N.Y. agen te
of our own bankers'
Barclay's; and the fact that the Trust Company
accepted, very considerately, my bill for nearly four hundred thousand dollars, without my being able to produce any credentials, and that this puts me under a heavy moral obligation to vards that Company, natur-
ally makes my position very dificult and embarassing, in face of their hurt pride and justified resentment.
However, 1 will do my best and will see them again after the despatch of the well, meanwhile consoling Lyself, in the s interminable and undeserved troubles over the Lexas business, wit.. the philosophy of the ancients that a man struggling in adversity is a sight for the
Gods.
Yours very truly,
